1.83ghz Stock White MacBook RSS
Sim condition as others here: week 21, able to produce shutdown with the terminal Yes command when starting cold (not warmed up). Standard 512MB ram setup. Used to “moo” infrequently. Lastest OS and updates including firmware.
Apple Store in Houston repaired:
APP-605-0994 SVC, TOP CASE W APP-603-8071 ASSY, HEATSINK, M42 APP-603-9857 ASSY, BEZEL, M42 APP-603-9857 ASSY, BEZEL, M42 APP-805-6761 IO FRAME.
Repair was very fast. Genius was pleasant and easy to deal with, I had my info ready for him as well. No “moo”ing, but still having shutdowns, more frequent now. Return trip to Apple Store pending.
8/28 Update: Different store, different genius
This proves that it pays to bring in your paperwork. While trying it cold, I get it to shutdown unexpectedly (via Terminal Yes commands) in front of the Genius, and I give the him my paperwork from the first repair (see above). He checks out the serial numbers and no logic board replacement in that list.
It seems the repair depot in Memphis gave me a new top case, new palm rest, but no logic board (MLB). So, I have a replacemet MLB on order and they are going to repair it at the Apple store w/o shipping it off to the repair depot (“I’ll treat it as if it is my own”).
Lots of comments in the new work order about the first repair and very apologetic (on someone else’s behalf).
Update: 9/1 -Macbook returned.
New logic board and no shutdowns since. I tested it in the Apple Store upon pickup and from cold start, could not get the Yes terminal command to trip the shutdown, even past the familar 178° threshold. After about 10 min, figured it for good and left. No shutdowns since that time -3 days now.
