I had a black macbook and it started turning itself off for no reasons. I tried to do a back up but it kept crashing and quitting before finally giving up the ghost. When the apple store had a look they confirmed the crashes had corrupted the O/S with the result that even mounting the drive by firewire was not possible and I lost all my data. As this is the 4th mac I've had with a logic board problem you really have to wonder why apple keep having the same problems with logic boards without ever solving them. In 10 years of using a corporate laptop (many brands, many models) I not once had the hardware problems I've experienced on all my recent macs.
