I got my MacBook 3 days ago and already experienced 2 random shutdowns. I am just now performing the test described here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=274 to check about the reproducability of the problem so I guess it can happen any minute now. I really hope this problem gets solved soon. The MacBook is just beauty apart from this.

This seemed to work for me. I noticed that every time the machine came back from being asleep a random shut down would occur within minutes. So I turned off all the sleep options for the computer, ran the “yes” test in terminal and I have yet to have a shut down (almost a week now).

But having a laptop that can’t be put to sleep is’nt that great. One great thing about laptops is when you can open them and they wake up and work right away :/

I completely agree, but until we get some real recognition of the problem from Apple and get a real solution I’m afraid we’ll all keep trying to find those temporary solutions.

True, sadly. I think I too have a clue. My MacBook shut down about 5x this morning, so the 6th time I refrained from starting 4 applications all at once just after the Macbook booted, but let it run for a few minutes before doing so and lo and behold, no shutdown. So my momentary theory would be that the shutdown happens when the processor themperature rises too quickly.
