Waiting for MacBook

I found out about this problem because my old iBook just died (just killed it’s 4th logic board in 4 years. Now I’m beginning to suspect a similar design issue with heatsink problems). I was going to buy a replacement MacBook from the dealer, but they told me that Apple is currently not shipping any until they resolve this problem. Actually, I think they said Apple is “not currently manufacturing any”.

So I suppose that’s good news. It means they recognize the problem and its seriousness, they don’t want to put any more defective MacBooks out there, and there must be insane pressure on the design engineers to come up with the fix (“Sure, you can go home to your family. But recognize that while you’re sleeping, we’ll lose another $40 gazillion in sales. Don’t let that worry you.”)

Good news! And yes, I’m sure there’s a lot of pressure on some people – in the same sentence it should be said that some people didn’t do their job in the first place. The problem should have been spotted before the product release. A survey reveals that 1 in 5 MacBook Pro’s have a problem. The problem might just started for the MacBook, which was released later!

they really stopped selling macbooks? about 10 days ago in a post on apples discussion boards i stated that i thought they were knowingly selling new defective macbooks. it was censored (removed) within 24 hours, but not until it was viewed 1000 times with 40 replies.

my macbook has been in the shop since 8/31 & they told me i would get it back tomorrow, but it is still listed as being on hold for parts so far today.
