another update – UK people take note

Spoke with the Office of Fari Trading today about the problems, and I have logged a formal complaint about Apple in the UK.
It is UK Law that if the repair cannot take place within a reasonable time you have the legal right to request a new machine. Reasonable time, the lady told me would be 7-10 days.
Called Apple again, told them about this – after waiting on hold for 10 minutes the guy came back to me and said that will try and get the Machine back to me on Weds (so much for not having the parts in stock!), but failing that I should call them on Weds to arrange a replacement – just goes to show what telling them about the UK Law and that you have complained does….

That’s interesting, I wish I had known this since the beginning. I was told my repair was to take 7 days too but ended up taking 24 days!

Mine is going for ‘repair’ on Monday. I was told by AppleCare that the repair will take 5 working days, from collection to redelivery. They described this as ‘generous’, and that ordinarily they are turned around the day they are received, so would be back in 2-3 days.
We’ll see.

I also spoke to the OFT, and was told that up to 28 days is considered reasonable time. Having got mine back from the Apple store unrepaired (due to the expected long delay, they recommended I go to the reseller I purchased it from), I am now organising to take it in to the reseller. Strangely, my reseller does not believe that there is a delay ( though Aple does.. hmm).
I was advised by the OFT to put in writing, that I expect the repair to be carried in reasonable time (stating the 28 days), otherwise I will be requesting a replacement/refund.
