    hmm, it seems mine behaving differently with 10.4.8. I mean no shutdown happening so far. I guess I need shutdown and cool body down and then restart to make sure 10.4.8 effect.

    No luck here. Updated the software, shutdown, let it cool and restarted. Would not boot until I held the start button down until I got the screech of death and was able to start up.
    Apple really needs to address this problem which seems to be more widespread as the days go by.
