Final Fix: Heat Sink

Just to let everyone know that I just got my MB back from Apple. I picked it up from the local Apple Store and noticed that the only replaced the heat sink and the keyboard cover. I asked why they did not replace the logic board and they said that the Apple engineers have confirmed that the problem is the heat sink. So, the machine has been running great so far but we’ll see if the Apple Genius that I spoke with was correct.

I wouldn’t cheer yet, as my MacBook had the same shutdown problem and the heatsink was replaced at an autorised Apple service shop a few days ago, just as Apple had instructed. Well, today the shutdowns started again. I took my MB back to the service today and the guys there were dumbfounded, replacing the heatsink should have solved the problem. Oh well, they promised to look at it again. I hope it was just a defective spare part..

My just started doing the random shutdown a few days ago. To prevent it I do this. When you start to hear the fans rev up, put the computer to sleep, then wake it (after the light flased and the fans stop) and all good until the next rev up. I know, I know. It’s not a fix but at least I can keep working. Oh, while I have it powered by a/c I use the “better energy savings” setting. All this until I can bring myself to turn it in for repair. I can’t recommend apple anymore – what am I to do? Vista? ;)

I also have RSS back. I’m thinking the problem is not with the heatsink but with the logic board. Think about it, if it was a short in the wires of the heat sink why does holding the reboot for like 20 seconds and waiting for the beep make any difference. Thats the only way I can get it to boot when its playing up.

[...] Well, it just keeps getting better; besides the fact that it has it’s own website named after it, it seems that no matter what anybody proposes or suggests as the "final solution" for RSS, there is someone, somewhere who says: "No, I did that and it still occurs."
