The last shutdown

As mentioned before

I had serious problems with my MacBook Pro 17 inch, 2GB Ram for over 4 months. Though it had been for repair 3 times, nothing coukd stop it to shutdown with kernel panic absolutely randomly.

Last week I decided to give it a last chance: I formatted the HD, overwrote it with 0, installed mainly Universal Versions (some I especially bought) from Original Installer-CDs or Webdownload. During this processs it started with kernel panics as before. I upgraded to. 10.4.8. There was a time when I could work for 4 hours. But then the next morning it had several kernel panics again and the last did kill my intern HD! It was not available anymore, Diskutility could not repair it.

That was the point of no return. I thought that I wanted back my old powerbook and bought a used Powerbook G4 1.67 GHZ. Since using that again I have no problems at all, no single freeze or kernel panic.

I called the local dealer, where I bought the MBP and told him, that I want to return the machine and my money back. He was quite upset and offered me a new MBP, which I do not want.

I will show two presentations on 20th this month with 1000 people looking at it on two huge screens during some awards. At the moment I am working on this animations and I am not willing to go into another test with another MAcBook Pro. Maybe I will buy one next year, when all this terrible problems are solved.

Therefore I need my money back to be free in my decision. Here in Germany I think it is my right already after two dissatisfying repairs to change machine for money back. I will contact my lawyer and take the necessary steps.

Does somebody have experiences with Apple returning money to their customers?

Thanks
Bernd

By off chance, was any of your ram from a third party? I had ram that worked fine under 10.3, but once I upgraded to 10.4 I would get kernel panics within a few minutes use. swapped out that ram for ram marked for use in apples, and I’ve not had a kernel panic since.

    Thanks Matt for your hint
The local dealer installed this RAM. I do not know if it is third party or not.
They told me that that they changed the RAM each time it was in repair, also three times bad RAM?
I never had 10.3 running on that machine, started with 10.4.7.
    Best regards

I’m sorry I can’t remember where I read this, but I did read a post from another user about taking legal action. He said that Apple did infact refund his money after threatening with a lawsuit.
