I purchased my black macbook in April 06′… About two months later, it happened. I did some research and realized that I was one of the many people who were sold a MacBook lemon. I fought with myself for months about sending it in. Im addicted to this machine! Well I finally got sick of the random shutdowns and just sent it in. Apple did an awesome job of urgent repair and delivery. I sent it in this Monday and received it this Thursday. It only took 3 and a half days! It is working flawless, just how it did when I first bought it. They replaced the HEATSINK. There was no logic board replacement required. There was also no need to backup anything on my hard drive. Just wanted to share my sucsessful repair story with fellow lemon owners. Dont be scared to send it in. Do it and you will be happy that you did.
Good for you… you have now a refurbished macbook.
Wait about 1 month before saying its fixed. I had exactly the same thing, send it in, comes back “fixed” having only heat sink replace. I tried in the shop to kill the thing y > /dev/null * 2 for 10 minutes. It got hot but it kept on trucking. Few weeks later the RSS is back, only way to fix is the logicboard. Hope you are more lucky.
Luke (comment No. 2) is very right. I have heard people sending theirs in and right about a month later it starts RSSing again.
mine had the heat sink done first as well… (first) then logic board..
Definitely want to wait before preaching success, BUT it is important to note that repairs done a month ago were not with the newly designed heatsink that is currenty being used for repairs.
I had my heatsink and topcase replaced last week. According to Apple it’s a new heatsink design that shipped to service providers around SEP 20th. There will be no more logic board replacements to fix RSD.
Good luck to all
I was thinking about the stories of RSS victims who had their heatsink replaced a month ago, and now suffer from the RSS again after the SCM update. Is their any relation between this? The new SCM update is only valid for the new heatsink design? Any experts on this?
Cheers.
Im very worried because my MacBook is coming from repair from Holland ( Im on Canary Islands, Spain ), I expect to receive it the next week, well, the repair was done in the week from 18 to 24, I have any chance that it was repaired with the new heat sink and logic board ? Im very worried

“I purchased my black macbook in April 06′”
MacBook was released in middle of May. Sorry
In reply to worries of UNIX4ALL (reply 7), I was just informed that my MacBook will be repaired by replacing only the heatsink. When I send my MacBook for repair two weeks ago, the repair would include logic board and heatsink, but in the meantime Apple apparently changed the repair procedure. I think your repair was still in the logicboard & heatsink period.
I really hope the new designed heatsink will do for my MacBook….
Thanks for the reply Benno, I hope that the repair fix my MacBook. I expect to receive it tomorrow.
Luck to all.
Machine back with new Heat Sink.
RSD has started again.
Battery drains rather quickly.
Everytime i have to reset PMU.
Airport & Bluetooth is no longer stable.
My ibook is back on table.
AppleCare tele support expired.
Apple wants me to put more money & buy AppleCare before talking to me.
The store Manager wants to again change the heat sink & Logic Board.
If I post on Apple Discussion board they will delete my post.
What should I do now.
How long should I wait.
APPLE i regret the purchase decision.
If anyone can help can I have Mr Jobs Phone Number.
I found this post on the apple support forums. Some poor guy has RSS for the 6th time! He is sending it back for the 7th time.

Has anyone had their macbook really fixed by apple? By fixed I mean working for weeks ( of heavy use ) after apple have returned it as “fixed”.
I have it for the third time. APPLE guys is telling me that I am lying. This thing is really getting dirty now.
I dont feel like working on the MACBOOK now… I will switch over to PC with my next pay cheque.
I sent mine in twice and both times I only talked to t2 Macbook pro product experts.. after the second repair I Asked for it to be replaced and they agreed it should be done.. (dont take poor explenations for what is causing the problems read read and read soem more about all possible fixes here along with the formus)
Sent my Macbook pro back yesterday and now waiting on the replacment
All in all apple has been in my eyes very fair in the repair system they tried twice and after replacing both the LB and the heatsink along with some heatsink related parts…
