Tips to living with RSS.
“Hello my name is Luke and I have been living with RSS for months. Its been 2 hours since my last RSS.”
My mb developed RSS a couple of months back, at the time I couldnt take it in as I was in another country. When I got home I took it in and they replaced the heat sink. Weeks later RSS is back, and now im in a holding pattern waiting for a new part ( logic board they say). Anyway its two weeks now.. and probably 2-3 months of dealing with RSS in one form or another. Here is my list of things which I do to improve the situation.
1. If starting you have to reset PRAM first.
Hold down power until you hear BEEEEEEEEP. If you want to keep the laptop running for long period DONT close the lid or let it go into standby. Otherwise it will normally wake up and get the RSS again.
2. Its all about heat. Or lack of it. MB like to be warm.
As others have reported RSS often hits when the macbook is cold. Poor little thing, must have become accustomed to the heat given by its intel cooker. When RSS gets really really bad (as it did when I was in UK), you have to warm the laptop up before booting. I did this by putting a towel on top of a radiator and placing the laptop on that for a few mins. I joke you not it works. At work I used a towel on top of a recently used toaster. Same result, although probably more risky. Get the thing warm and it will boot, use your imagination.
3. Keep CPU ticking along.
This is related to #2, when your MB has booted, quickly start up some apps which eat some cpu. We are aiming to get about 10-20% cpu. Do this right away. This will stop things from cooling down to much. I find iTunes and PhotoBooth both seem to do a good job. If I dont start an app which constantly eats some cpu RSS will return.
By following these steps I can keep my MB running most of the day, even overnight if I leave it on and plugged in. If I dont follow these steps the MB will normally shut down within seconds or minutes of starting up.
Hope this helps other users, let us know your tips.

Turn your energy saving settings to”sleep never”. Also locking the processor at 1GHz by holding the power button for 10 seconds until you hear the long beep at start up. NEVER CLOSE THE LID UNLESS YOU HAVE TOO.

This is really pathetic. As a macbook owner, I can not accept such a method. Eycuse me, this is my frustriation, but should we pray, before we push the button too??
I am waiting for three weeks, and this is my second repair. I am going to find two more problems and I am going to replace it with a newer model..
I am sorry Apple, you really messed up……

i didnt know about the necessity of warmth. anyway what works for me is holding down the start button twice in a row (because after the first one the MB usually shuts down) and then afterwards everything is fine until i shut it down intentionally. it is really frustrating to have this thing so i would like to return it and get back my money.. do you think it is possible.. from a legal point of view???

I think most of us already know the tricks above.
but I was wondering for how long do we have to adopt these procedures. This procedures are OK for PC’S but do we know have to do it with the MACS.
I have started to HATE macbooks. APPLE is going DOWN…..

I am one of the victim too, I am so disappointed and upset to Apple, I am sorry…It just troubles me whenever I need to work out something important..

My wife owns an MB and it started getting the RSS after about using for 2 months. She wanted a PC but persuaded her for an MB as I have been a macuser since 1989.
I remember what I said “Macs are Rock solid, PCs only advertise being solid as that is their future dream while for macs rock solid was a milestone gone way past etc…” Talk about eating words!!!!
