I get a grey screen at boot up with spinning wheel and apple, it then shuts down and repeats this process over and over again. i cannot get to the log in window. this started immediately after the firmware install or update requested a computer restart. what do i do? i run mac os x 10.05

I too am getting the random “Start-up Problem”! Could you please confirm if yours is resolved or not?

I get my MacBook restarted automatically only while it’s left on Battery. I can not carry the Macbook while traveling as it keeps looping in auto start / shut down consuming battery.

Yup. Mine too. I get the apple logo, a little clock action, and then it shuts off completely. Nothing has helped so far.

We purchased a Macbook online and it worked for one day then shutdown and we could not revive it. You press the power button, it “bongs” and then the screen goes black and the computer is completely unresponsive except for the light on the front. A call to Apple had a new one shipped within two days. This one kernel panicked on the first boot and would not restart after that. So we called the nearby Apple store and swapped for a new one. Hopefully this will be the last of the problems. We bought the Apple Care with this one.

I just brought my macbook back to my local apple service provider for another attempted repair. First time arround they replaced my heatsink but the shutdowns have continued. Two things, (1) I guess this kind of problem can be expected with any new product line, so we shouldn’t be surprised, but (2) COME ON! I can’t get a strait answer. “in very many cases”…”if this doesn’t solve your problem”…in other words there isn’t any single fix that resolves the issue. The insides of any macbook are all fubar and these poor technicians have to troubleshoot each machine because there isn’t a silver bullet fix.

I’ve repaired dozens of MBs…
In very many cases performing SMC and EFI updates solved the sudden shut-down syndrom!

1.) make *all* available SMC and EFI Updates (Software Update in the ï£¿-Menu)

2.) If this does not solve your problem, bring your MB to a local Apple Service Provider – they will replace the Heat Sink or/and the Logic Board of your MB.

I really feel bad for you.

Have you looked into taking legal action if Apple refuses to replace your defective notebook?
