On my second Crashbook…..

Ripping pissed.

I bought my black macbook at the beginning of December and later that night had a random sudden shutdown. Not Good. Hoping this was just a quick glitch I thought nothing of it and moved on. Within about ten days it happened about 7 times before I had to leave the country for a long overseas vacation. When I returned I tried to bring it back but unfortunately I couldn’t even get anyone to look at it because I exceeded my 15 days. I even had procare but I was told I would have to wait to have someone “look at it.”
To make a long story short, I was incredibly worked up and wrote a heated email to the store and then replied all including Steve Jobs on the email with a over the top subject line which read: “Shoddy products, long lines, hidden service costs, waste of my time: How Apple clawed its way to the top and will plummet to the bottom.”
5 minutes later someone called me and told me to come over to the store and I would be taken care of. I went over again….swapped mine out for a brand new machine and all seemed well.

Two days later it suddenly made me restart. its happened twice since. tomorrows the last day I can return it so I plan on doing so. However, I like the machine…I just want one that won’t have this problem…..what do I do??? Do I get a full refund or ask for a new machine? All I want is something that’s stable.

I’ve had a mac since the classic and have only had one problem with the 13” power book when it first came out…..it had a lot of problems actually. It just permanently conked out on me in December in which I said “screw it” and got the new machine. My belief is that Apple is rushing too much to get its product into the market and not testing them thoroughly.

I’m assuming that you’ve already downloaded the necessary firmware update released in October to eliminate RSD.

Welcome to the world of “macbook…a genuine piece of crap.” I am on my FOURTH macbook. That’s right. Fourth. And this one is going back too. The list of problems? Shutting down in the middle of my work- telling me to “restart my computer” and not giving me a damn option other than that…..shutting down and NOT turning back on- only to have the mac store tell me to take out the battery, unplug it…yadda yadda- um, hello- this is a NEW computer?! What the hell am I doing this for??? Freezing programs…do I seriously need to go on? Anyway. I feel your pain. My suggestion? GIve up. I am. I’m returning my 4th tomorrow and getting something else.

And I’ll be damned if they’re going to charge me a restocking fee……

    GOod luck!

    Never Buy A Mac.

That is what I plan to tell all 900 of the incoming freshmen college students I see every year. I have never gotten a) such a faulty product and b) such shoddy tech support and c) the ridiculous run around of lies and misinformation.

Further, when I spoke to a customer service rep, she insisted there was no way for Apple to compensate me for the 6 months I’ve owned two different “Crashbooks” and have essentially been without a reliable computer, not to mention DVD player, CD player. Not to mention that this very expensive piece of equipment looks dirty within days of typing on it–a dirt no cleanser seems to take off.

I have changed the signature on my email to “Never buy a Mac. Ask me why.” I plan to attach that to every outgoing email I send, which includes three newsletters, many to other writers and prospective students.

Apple should be ashamed of their heartless greed. All Apple cares about is turning a profit. They fail to see that there are people in world who rely upon computers, whose jobs and livelihoods are at stake when they lose their files, their time..

I’m currently composing a song called “Ode to a Crashbook.”
    Yep. Apple sucks.

I have a black macbook to and get an odd error sometimes. Usually when i have to eject a volume (like external disk) the system just says ‘ejecting, please wait’ the crashes and gives me the spinning wheel of death for 3-4 hours then restarts itself :-(

To get the word out on Mac’s horrendous hardware and service more effectively, I suggest posting on CNET forums. It’s a highly influential site. Get ‘em where it hurts.
