I have been a long time windows fan however recently I took the plunge and moved over to the dark side… Well now I know it to be the apple white light side! Since I have had my MacBook 2Ghz White I have loved it. It has worked out of the box like no other and does everything that a windows PC ver did and much much more. Though I sympathise with your problems you are just an angry minority and your whiney complaints should do nothing to effect the stirling reputation that apple is building. Be reasonable with the minimum wage apple store employee and I’m sure that your problem will be sorted as I not many of the peoples problems have been.

Wow, not only a switcher but an immediate Apple fanboy with absolute dedication to the cause. Impressive.
It never ceases to amaze me that people treat Apple like a religion. Look, they make nice hardware and software; but they are not a benevolent identity. They are trying to make a buck, sometimes at the cost of their customers. Face it. The minority you speak of was disenfranchised at the time the problems were rampant (the figure being throw about was 30% of all the initial intel laptop products lines didn’t have reported problems - although not all were anywhere near as serious as the shutdown issue.) Yes the problem is mostly fixed, but that doesn’t mean some poor sap is out there with a failing Macbook feeling all alone in the world.

I am pretty thankfull for this site! I google’d and youtube’d a lot these days as I am planing on “changing to the apple site” … In fact I wanted to order it this week.
As I was watching several vids on youtube about this shutdown thing I really got scared and wanted to get infos about this! And it is an issue! As I decided to pay like 20% more than a comparable Windows-Notebook costs, I REAALLY expect Quality (as I was sure to get it from apple).
And even OSX and in all its briliance (my pal got a G4 ibook and let me play with it) does not justify the higher price!
So thank you very much for this site! At least I know what I am preparing to and how I would have to react. Hopefully apple will fix it…
As this site shows at the top: It cant be accepted, that apple now rides on the wave of success and does the same sdoopid errors like Microsoft & Co and throw half-done products on the market just because “mac is so sexy” …

Wow. Good for you. Give it some time. I was the same way when I first bought my mac. After multiple hard drive crashes, discoloring, CD drive breakage, logic board failures, I couldn’t take it anymore. I have a Windows laptop. Yeah, yeah, the OS isn’t as good, but a) any problem that I have is directly related to something that I have screwed up and b) the shell is super sturdy.

I’m torn. My Macbook is a big disapointment. It is noisy, discolored, crashes intermitantly, and now the battery is dead. My wife has a 12″ ibook which has never given us any trouble and I still have one of the first 300MHZ tangerine ibooks which I upgraded with a 40Gig hard drive and OS X. It’s faster than my 2GHZ Windows Laptop . We also have a mac mini which is bulletproof. It only seemed natural that the Macbook should be as good or better. Not so. No more new macs for me. I’ll try to find a used powerbook G4 and ride out the storm.
