my bad apple experience(s)..
My story begins in the summer of 06′, having recently completed my first year of university i decide that having a laptop will be extremely useful for school. So having worked all summer and finally saving enough money to buy a macbook i head over to the my campus bookstore were i am about to purchase a macbook. Unfortunately, to my dismay, the little campus bookstore is sold out of macbooks as well as macbook pros and there is a waiting list for them. My student credit card has a limit of $500, so i couldn’t purchase my mac online, and i wanted the student discount (plus free ipod nano) so i decide against purchasing it at a retail store. So i put my name on the waiting list. This was the beginning of august, and school starts in september, I think to my self (with the reassurance of the staff working there) that i will have mple time before school starts to get used to my first mac.
Unfortunately, days turn into weeks, the campus store finally got a shipment in however, not mine 
. I finally got my macbook (black 2.0ghz core duo) at the end of September. So i get my macbook and everything seems to be going ok then about 1 month after i get it it dies. when i say it died, i mean it was dead. wouldn’t power on, compltely useless to me. I take it to the campus store, they say its past the return policy and they cant do anything about it. My campus has an authorized repair center so i take it there. 2 weeks later i get it back, apparently something is wrong with the logic board, so it was replaced. All my notes were on the macbook, and i foolishly did not back them up, but fortunately my hard drive was intact. at this point i am happy to have my macbook back.
However, after about 2 days i realize that my macbook won’t wake up from sleep mode. when i put the macbook to sleep and wake it up the screen stays black and the little light stays on. At my campus tech repair store there is only 1 mac authorized tech. so i take it back to him. 1 week later i get it back and he doesn’t know what to do.. so he sends it to another repair center. another 2 weeks later i get it back, this tech center replaced the logic board again, (they said it wasn’t repaired properly the first time). Ok so its been 4 stressful weeks but i finally get my mac back and it seems to be working pretty good.
But 1 week later, i am in a lecture and typing some notes on my macbook when suddenly..it shuts down. so now it randomly shuts down. sometimes within 5 minutes of rebooting, sometimes 15, sometimes 1 hour…
Tomorrow i am going to take it to the repair center again. I called apples help line and they were pretty useless, i asked about a replacement and they said they needed 3 documented repairs before i was eligible…in the mean time i am really considering getting that extended apple care.

I bought my wife a Toshiba notebook for college this year for $725.00 after rebate. It just works right out of the box lol… no RSS etc… and it’s pretty much the same as the Mac version except it has a 17 in widescreen display, 1 gig ram, Intel video just like the Mac version, 160 gig HD, Core Duo 2. Basically identical hardware for a lot less $$$$$ sorry but OSX is the only difference(so before you start fan boys OSX is not worth the extra grand).
I would suggest that all students boycott Apple ATM until Apple starts stading behind their over priced PC’s(yes Macs are PC’s fan boys! LOL )

They don’t replace computers–all they can do is give you a refurbished one and i don’t want that…i’m asking for a refund.

UPDATE: they said the problem was the Logic boards (agian (third repair)) apple customer service was very poor. I was put on hold for 30 minutes before i could talk to someone from customer relations, just so he could tell me that my request for a replacement was denied. They said that they would CONSIDER alternatives to repair if the problem happens again.
I am fed up with apple and i am actually thinking of submitting and edited version of this in my university newspaper (circulation >10 thousand)

First of all, most customer relations phone numbers are going to suck….and to expect Apple to be an exception is unrealistic. The solution? Take it to a freaking apple store. They will fix anything, and if they can’t they will send it to the apple warehouse who will make sure it gets fixed. Sure someone on the phone might attempt to give you the runaround, many staff in many businesses do that, including all the microsoft businesses. But go to an apple store and stand there with you’re problem and they will do everything they possibly can to help you. I just went because i was having similar problems, AND it had fallen off my desk and had a big ass dent in the corner. The guy had it sent out, marked it as a tier 1 repair for the logic board, right fan(which i probably stepped on the machine and pushed the casing to rub against the fan) and for the huge dent which i was told would cost at least 800 dollars to fix. So in the end I got about 1200 dollars of free repair, my computer works perfectly, and I could not be happier. Under no circumstance is apple a “bad company” Think about it, do nice good ole people from Sony and Dell walk around in the story helping you with every sort of product, running workshops on how to use cool features, and all that jazz? No but apple has thousands of stores built for you to come and learn and get the help you need. Please, stop wasting your time on repair lines and utilize a store.

First of all there is no direct apple store in my city. I bought it from my university reseller. Second i live in Canada, and i already contacted Apple about dealing with them directly (via shipping my broken laptop to them), however for Canadian customers this is not an option.
I also did not say Apple was a ‘bad’ company. I really like their products, hence the reason i bought a macbook. If you didnt get it, this article was written describing my personal experience with apple. And i have no other alternative but waste my time with repairs, as there is no other alternative.
