Since When Does 1.83 = 2.0??
Like many of you out there I have had a certified “Crashbook” for the past 8 months. I bought one of the first to come out on the market last June. Kernal Panicks, random shutdowns/restarts and failing to wake up from sleep were all the order of the day. I sent my computer in twice and had 2 logic board’s replaced before I demanded a replacement. They tried to convince me it was the RAM but with some coaxing they agreed to send me a new one but this time it would be the Core 2 Duo. I am hoping that the problem is somewhat fixed in the new generation of Macbooks but as I write this I am still waiting to find out. I was told the whole process would take 4 weeks. Today is 4 weeks and one day. But, lo and behold, earlier today Purolator showed up at my door with a shiny new Macbook. Well, stressed out from using a dinosaur PC for most of the past 4 weeks and exited to get producing again, I ripped open the box and pulled out the Macbook only to find THEY HAD SENT THE WRONG ONE! Mine was a 2.0 with 80gb hd and a Superdrive and they sent me a, 1.83 with 60gb hd and a combodrive (they still make those?). So, I phone Apple and first they try to convince me this one is “functionally equivalent” to my old one and then they try to get me to send back this one and wait another 4 weeks for my computer. Well I dug my heals in and insisted they either let me keep this until the new one arrives or they refund my MasterCard for the 1449 plus tax. So, after almost an hour on the phone with Apple they agreed to let me open this one and use it until I receive the correct one. But what a head-ache! I am so close to returning to the world of PC…but I’ll give them another shot. Here’s hoping my new Macbook was worth the wait!

It’s too bad their support is so awful. I really like the move I made to Apple, but as a business user it’s beyond horrible. It doesn’t seem any different from others however.
While I’m not at all trying to make an excuse for Apple, perhaps they just weren’t ready for the mass demand for the now-not-so-new Intel machines.

No the wait is not worth it. You will always be having compatiblity problems and hardware problems.
Do you know how much better a Dell, HP or Toshiba you could have for $1400??? No to mention the better support!

get your new machine? I love my black macbook, apple really thinks through the entire design.. other machines have built in cams and such as an afterthought and they never seem to work so well.
