Macbook Also Known as Crash_Book #2

After taking my laptop in following what I said earlier posts below I had to deal with an annoying “genious” who was trying to convince me that my computer didn’t even have this problem and that all i needed was the Firmware (which I already had). After he finally looked in some type of log he saw that it was shutting down and he said that if they couldn’t watch it shut down then they coudln’t do anything at all (ok? when they know its a common problem) Anyway later that day a guy calls me from repair and asks if they coudl keep my laptop to replace the heat sink and logic board. they said this would take 3 to 4 days and so I said Sure go for it I want it fixed. A week and a half later the website still said in repair so i called apple to see what was taking so long. turns out they had no logic boards and they had 14 other computers that needed new logic boards. they had no clue when they were gettting them. luckily i live by the store so the nxt day i went over and talked to manager and demanded they get me a logic board. after complaining a little they found one in some suburb and they had it fedexed to them nxt day air. they said they replaced everything two days later so i went to pick her up.. when i picked it up everything was great running soomthly and i was quite happy. ………… 2 weeks later…… shutdown shutdown…..After two weeks of flawless activity it shut down again so i though id give it a couple more chances so another week passed 4 more random shutdowns GREAT! I dont know what to do know i might go in and demand a refund or exchange because im fedup with this…. tell me if u have any suggestions for talkking to apple

    Hi,
I had a similar problem one year ago with a MacBook Pro, first generation.

    See here:

In your situation now I would threaten Apple immediately with a lawsuit to exchange your MacBook or give you a refund. They will try to repair you laptop three times and in my case it did NOT help.

I have a MacBook CoreDuro 2 17 inch now, this one has no problems.

    Good luck

The answer is simple: DELL! (or Toshiba, HP, even Sony)

In talking to Apple you just need to be firm. Demand, do not ask, for a refund or replacement. Make it clear to them how much this has inconvienced you and that you are fed up and won’t stand for this any more. It is unlikely you will get a refund from them, but they will replace it with a new one or let you pay the difference to replace it with a Macbook Pro (my recomendation if you have the money). When you phone Apple, don’t even deal with the Tech people, ask to speak to Customer Relations. They are the one’s that have the power to replace or refund your product. If you don’t have the money to pay the difference for the Macbook Pro, I would wait a few weeks until the next Macbooks come out to demand a replacement (they always replace with the latest hardware). Hopefully the third generation Macbooks will have solved these problems.

Good luck! If you have any questions you can reach me at iamaperson@shaw.ca.

I have a new Black MacBook, AND THIS IS MY FORTH!! I am a grad student and each time I had issues, Apple gave me a new machine. I have had this current machine since November and I am happy to say that I have not had a single problem. It is the 2nd generation Black MacBook and it appears that the kinks have really been worked out. The 1st generation models had MANY issues. i am so happy I demanded new machines.

    Same thing happened to me.

the worst thing is I was told it has out of guarantee and I have to pay for the replacement. I have left it in apple store for about 1 month now since I do not know what to do with it.
This is my first apple and would be last. I had never have problem with my previous 3 Toshiba notebook.
