I bought my MacBook at CompUSA s/n 4h632062u9c. This is a very powerfull, true performer-now the random or intermitent shut down issue.I had to fix this.First I contacted my local CompUsa they made me feel delusional.Next I contacted the CompUSA corporate repair facility they did not know of this issue as well, nor would they address it because my unit is still covered under the Mac warranty(I purchased the CompUSA 3 year)They give me the Mac tech/warranty phone number, offer to resolve the problem for 249.00.
We tried a series of “press and hold” procedures and arbitrary battery removal/install b.s.It was even sugested I claim the loss insurance to get a new unit.(most Mac owners are typically higher-order thinkers, not willing to upset any karmic balance)So that’s not an option. The firmware update can help.I have found the main cause,I will repair your unit if you send it to me.prepaid shipping/return/tracking and insurance. all I ask is a donation 50% of which will go to the Bay County Domestic Violence charity.
I have fixed 14 units locally without a hitch.I will remedy yours same day.
My phone number is:850.638.4331.Best 850.541.2214
Here is where I am:319 Wisteria Ln. Chipley ,Florida 32428
No hidden agendas here, just trying to help as we were devastated when this jewel fritzed. You may enclose a check or use paypall and promise this will permanently fix the unit, is non-invasive as not to void existing warranties.
I welcome any questions.

Hi all,
It’s been a long time since I’ve visited the MRSD site. I had the dreaded shutdowns up until October last year. The firmware patch released by Apple successfully fixed my problem and I haven’t had a shutdown since. My question is why the homepage for macbookrandomshutdown.com doesn’t have links to some of the primary support downloads that Apple has released to address shutdown related behavior? (did I miss something?) Most important was the 26 OCT 2007 firmware update which specifically addressed RSD (and fixed my RSD problem).
Second, many MB users with battery problems have noticed random shutdown-like behavior when their MB’s battery level still indicates over 25 percent remaining charge. Apple released a battery update on 14 MAY 2007 which has helped many people relieve this problem. Others that I know have easily exchanged their batteries which solved this problem.
Obviously these two Apple support downloads are not the only remedies for RSD, BUT they are the most common solutions, so it seems to me they should be blatantly mentioned on the macbookrandomshutdown.com homepage. Others may argue that OSX’s software update should automatically download these updates, but I personally know of a few cases when MB owners had to manually download and install these updates because, for whatever reason, software update did not catch them.
FWIW,
khunsanook

CEO Steve Jobs announced during his keynote address at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco that developers of third-party applications will be able to create Web applications for the iPhone using Safari, Apple’s Web browser.
This gives developers the chance to create iPhone applications using common Web development standards such as Ajax ahead of the device’s June 29 launch. As a bonus, those applications will also work on Windows now that Safari will run on Microsoft’s operating system.

I just started getting random shutdowns on battery power with my warrantied MacBook… sigh.
I made the mistake of buying one of the fist generation MacBooks (see the sordid story at www.brokenmacbook.com) but once it was replaced, it has been running trouble free. Just started getting the random shutdown issue this week.
After a shutdown, when I try to restart nothing, its dead. After about 5 minutes, it will start again, but only long enough for me to start a browser and then off it goes again. If I plug the MacBook into an power outlet, it runs again without shutting down.
The last time this happened, the battery indicator read that there was 11% charge remaining. I think something is faulty in the indicator and that is why I am getting the shutdowns without any “Battery Low” warnings… Unfortuantely, there does not appear to be any updates to solve the problem.
Until then, I am stuck to a power outlet…

Switch on your Mac and let it shut itself down (only takes a few seconds for me). Then start it again by keeping the power button pressed for several seconds until you hear a really loud beep followed by the standard startup beep. It won’t crash again, at least not for me, even if you restart it from the menu. However, if you shut it down, you’ll have to follow the same procedure again to get it to work. Again, you must let it crash before you start it with the button-holding PMU-reset or it won’t work. I’ve been doing this for the past 6 months and it works for me. I hope it will work for you too until we get a proper firmware fix !

So indeed I went back to the MacHouse in Amsterdam, tuesday afternoon may 29th. Now meanwhile I had been able to notice several properties of my MacBook’s ‘shutdowns’: 1/ They always occurred when I was working on batterypower 2/ When I charged the battery to 100%, and left the battery charger connected another hour or so, I could provoke the shutdown simply by pulling the power chord …
Now I had been counting on handing in my MacBook for a thorough diagnosis. But when I recounted the above observations at the Amsterdam helpdesk, the Mac-Guy took out the battery, and replaced it with a new one. Then he sent me home again. “It might just be that I won’t see you again,” he told me …
That was ten days ago … And until now: no more random shutdowns …
Thank you, Mac-Guy! And a big thumbs up for the TWO ‘on the spot’ solutions proposed at the Amsterdam MacHouse. Even though the first attempt (the heatsink replacement) proved to be fallicious, the ‘on the spot’ diagnosis and repair I was offered there definitely is the sort of service I’d expect, and greatly appreciate.
The Amsterdam MacHouse got themselves a new customer. It’s like that …
