Macbook Pro 15" Core Duo models have been especially prone to heat-sink problems. Turns out apple was a little too liberal with their thermal grease between the chip-set and heat-sink. What sounds like a good idea turns into a bad one with poor thermal conduction and overheating/shutdown. This also kills the lithium ion battery real quick due to heat stress.
I suggest using Temperature Monitor to keep an eye on your internal temps. When mine would shutdown the CPU A Temperature Diode was reading well over 220F. Now it sits pretty at 120F to 135F tops. See below for fix.

If you're feeling daring, here is a fix, it worked for me!

Listen to all the Mac fanboys try to defend their product and then blame the user. How typical.

Maybe "Apple" needs to take better "care" when manufacturing their products :).

Are you people so devoted towards attacking mac that you must gather the vast MINORITY of idiots who can't take care of one and thus broke it into one mac hating website so that all of you can repeat the same problems and find comfort in it together? You, and the idea behind this entire website is moronic and fueled solely by ignorance.

I’m having a problem…My 2.4 core 2 duo 2gb ram MB Pro…

My power indicator on my screen says I have a battery life of 99%. If I flip the computer over and touch the indicator all leds light up - full power as well.

If I’m plugged in the mbp works great, but once I unplug within 3 seconds the whole mac will die. No shutdowns, no reboot. Just *click* - off. If I’m unplugged I can try and turn it on but I’ll hear the mac start but before the chime I’ll hear the *click* - and then nothing.

I’ve been to the apple store 2 days ago and they couldn’t reproduce the problem. But now it’s more prominent since. I’m going back today to see what they say when I don’t let them go to the back room or plug it in first. LED’s don’t lie…something they made is defective. Either it’s my MBP or the battery…or both.

I’ll let you all know how it goes. I bought my MBP in Aug ‘07.

Here’s my power info:

System Power Settings:

Same story for me as those above... my macbook pro 15"er just started randomly shutting down a few months after the warrantee expired. Only happens when I'm not plugged into the wall (thank god). But I agree, what good is a laptop that only works when plugged in to the wall socket.
