18 month old Macbook shutting down randomly

I have no idea why it shuts down, or when it just does. It sucks because i use my laptop for school and i cant have my computer shutdown on me while i’m taking notes. It happened again for the first time in about a month today while i was in class, thankfully before the professor posted any notes. It’s weird, it will shut down, then i’ll turn it back on, and once it full loads, it’ll shut off again, and do this 3-4 more times before it decides to stay on by itself. Also, the battery on this machine is terrible. I get about an 1 hour and 20 minutes per full charge, with the backlight on the lowest setting, and airport on, bluetooth off. I thought the random shutting down had something to do with the battery and its short lifespan, but after reading multiple posts about the same problem, i don’t think it’s the batter.

Lets see, at 18 months apple doesn’t care about you any more, unless you bought apple care. Then just make sure it was actually registered.

So basically your just out of luck.
For about the same price as repairing this machine, and thats a maybe, you can get Dell, HP, Toshiba or Fujitsu and not have to worry about it dying in a year.

And if you want small and light, the Fujitsu P8010 is far better than a macbook air. Its smaller, lighter, has a built in DVD, 3 USB and a 6 hour battery. So big deal its a 1/4″ thicker than the air.

Now that you have seen the true nature of the jobs-topia its time to come into the light of the real world without apple hype.

Local Apple Store? Genius Bar. Free help in person, give it a shot. They can fix anything. Try to get that from HP, Dell, Acer or anyone for that matter. Batteries fail, die, expire and wear out. Car tires wear out also. Does everyone hate Michelin too? I’ll take a creaking broken occasional shutting down MacBook before a PC laptop any day.

Have you tried taking notes with a pencil and paper?
