The dread random shut down :-(

I purchased my MacBook Pro in April 2006, and started experiencing the shut down about 6 months later… for about a month, and then a blessed five month reprieve… now suddenly it begins again…! There is no explanation for this phenom. I still love my computer… and hope for a miracle!

I had RSS (random shutdown syndrome) and complete shutdowns for long periods. My Imac g5 had its power supply and logic board replaced (under extra applecare), as well as the new memory card replaced (repair shop issued). My applecare ran out. After 3 visits to the Apple-recommended repair shop, now I’m stuck with a piece of furniture that looks good but is useless. This computer is only 4 years old and I don’t have 1600$ to get another imac!! – Not that I’m crazy about this. After the lousy attitude at the repair shop who won’t give me a warranty for repairs that didn’t work, and Apple refusing to take any responsibility for further repairs or replacement, I’m not sure what to do. This is very upsetting. Computers should last longer than 4 years at that price!! Maybe its time to look at PCs!
I’m also suspecting that this is a planned obsolescence strategem that Apple employs so that it is forever making money on newer computers. Wouldn’t it be interesting if all those operating system updates also randomly included coding to verify that your mac was older than 3 years (past apple warranty) and would initiate the random shutdown sequence. I really think Apple coding should undergo forensic analysis… we live in a very sophisticated age where these things could happen.

My macbook pro 15 just started the dreaded shutdown at 40% left on the battery. Apple agreed it was a battery fault and are replacing it for free
