Random Auto start up / Power-up issue

After 10 months of purchase of MacBook it stopped starting up. Appel service replaced the logic board after keeping it for a week with them. After this replacement I have been facing one or the other problems with this peice of crap!
List of problems I have been getting:
- MacBook automatically starts up when it’s shutdown and AC adapter is disconnected at random intervals. I can no longer take it with me when I travel as it automatically turns up and become extremely hot in the bag. Apple service center had kept macbook for 2 weeks in back to back services and still problem persists. OSX has been re-installed from scratch and that too did not help
- A power dialogue keeps popping up saying “Are you sure you want to Restart, sleep, cancel, shutdown?” even when I do not press the power button or any key sequence
- Battery icon intermittently shows “x” on it unless it’s removed and re-inserted after some time.
- It now runs very hot comparitively than it used to before I gave it for service.

Hi I like your post “Random Auto start up / Power-up issue” so well that I like to ask you whether I should translate into German and linking back. Answer welcome. Greetings Schlauchboot

Hi Schlauchboot,
It would be good idea to translate it… appreciate your help.
As an update on this problem I had is that with trial & error I managed to control the problem by setting the EFI Firmware password using the DVD boot disk. Technically I have no idea how can this happen; but it worked! That’s what matters to me most at this point…
One of the disadvantage of using EFI password is that it disables all the key sequences except Option key; but that’s still better than to have a book getting restarted repeatedly.
_Thanks, Naresh

Hello;
I’ve the same problem and this firmware password method didn’t work. How is your status right now?

Fortunately it has been working for me after the password. I have also updated all the apple SW to the latest available.

My macbook is now unusable. It randomly turns it off and on. The password method didn’t help. I’ll try to give it to the service, but I think mainboard should be replaced. I don’t want to pay so much money for this bad product….
1st rev macbook? epic fail…
